The slowing of the speed when you use an armor above your strength is quite easy to notice, so just equip an armor and compare your speed to the enemies. If you've just started the game, the tier-5 and tier-4 weapons, and Plate Armor, will always be too heavy for you. Here are a few strategies to assess items before the auto-identification kicks in:.That means that if you find a high-tier weapon, or armor, in the beginning of the game, it is more likely to be upgraded than degraded, or cursed, and inversely, if you find basic equipment later in the game it is more likely to be cursed. The weapons and armor generation algorithm is more likely to generate equipment with a minimum strength that matches your current maximum strength (according to the number of Potions of Strength generated). They are always cursed, but won't be degraded, unless it was degraded when you died with it in the previous game. Items found in Skeletal Remains which generate a Wraith are from the Hero's remains from another game.Items found in locked rooms are less likely to be cursed than items found in regular rooms.Unidentified items are cheaper, so buy them all cheaply before using one, if possible.Mimics, however, can force the Hero to drop some gold from the Backpack. The only exception to that general description is Gold, which cannot be dropped, thrown, or stolen, once acquired. A list of all item shop prices can be found here. I had a bunch of them when I died and it revealed their effects when looked through my gear (before starting a new game). I came here wondering the same thing about the potion colors. You can use a scroll of identify on them to reveal their effects, but those scrolls are rare in my experience. I do wish I could handle heavier weapons, but now that I saw what all the potions do, I see one of them I still have so much to learn here but that’s a big part of the fun. I also love that you can save, quit, and return anytime. Discovering how to cook raw meat, for example, was quite exhilarating. You’re given an infinite amount of time to plan since mobs only move when you do. While I’m generally not fond of strategy games, SPD does things in a way that makes it fun for me. I also noticed what I think is a shop (tan brick building with a locked door) but died before finding the key. I moved all over the place trying to lose him but no such luck. I finally made it to the fifth floor down, where I ran into a big black blob that ultimately killed me. I think it’s cool that the in-game guide (or Tome of Dungeon Mastery) reveals more tips the more you play.
